Why the Cotton Blend?

Why the Cotton Blend?

Hahnemühle Bamboo fine art paper is created from 90% bamboo and 10% cotton – two tree-free fibres. It forms part of Hahnemühle's Natural Line collection, with special fine art inkjet papers made from unique raw materials: bamboo, hemp, agave and sugar cane.

Bamboo fibres are much longer, stronger and harder than wood so cotton is blended to both soften the paper and make it more durable. The cotton fibres used in paper manufacture are actually from a byproduct of the textile industry that would otherwise end up in the trash.

A supple feel to paper is important and the result is an elegant, entirely clean sheet, having no blemishes or spots. Acid- and lignin-free, no optical brighteners, pH neutral and completely archival, it’s the natural white, or pearl white colour that provides the paper’s warm and earthy tone.

Bamboo paper is a great way of striking a balance between “green,” cleanness, price, printability and uniqueness.
